Welcome to the EPB Power Savers program!

تفصیل

  • You’re now part of a unique program that gives commercial customers like you a smarter, more flexible way to save energy. By reducing electricity use during peak times—up to just three times a month—you can earn direct monthly cash incentives with no penalties for non-participation.
  • This document will be your guide throughout the journey of creating and implementing a customized program plan.
  • Together, we’ll identify opportunities for reduction, plan for Events, and offer support for communicating your efforts to stakeholders. We’re excited to work together to achieve your energy-saving goals!

دا څنګه کار کوي؟

There are only five steps to follow to be a Power Saver:

  1. Decide: EPB alerts your organization’s Program Contact via text or email 30 minutes to 2 hours before an energy reduction event (Event) is called. Once you get the notification, you decide if your organization will participate—no penalties if you can’t reduce for whatever reason.
  2. ځواب: If you’re participating, your Program Contact will let EPB know through the EPB Business Tracker tool. The link will be provided in the text and email.
  3. خوندي کول: Execute your Load Reduction Plan and save on your monthly bill for the electricity you didn’t use during the Event.
  4. Get Paid: At the end of the month, EPB will average your load reduction over the number of Events that took place (no more than three Events per month). You’ll see the amount you earned as a credit on your next bill.
  5. Review: You’ll also receive an annual performance report showing your total rewards and impact. We hope you’ll decide to stick with us and we’ll repeat this process for years to come.

Power Savers Key Activities

  • Your participation in the EPB Power Savers program involves several key activities.
  • From assessing your current energy use and setting SMART goals, to developing a detailed Load Reduction Plan (LRP) and implementing it effectively, each step is designed to ensure you meet your energy reduction targets.

Assess the Opportunity (What types of loads should be included?)

  • Description: Review EPB analysis of energy use and demand patterns, discuss types of equipment or processes that could be temporarily curtailed, assess current usage patterns and establish a baseline range.
  • Responsible Party: Program Contact and EPB, Facilities employees, as needed.
  • Tools/Resources: Electric load profile, past 12-14 months of electric bills.

اهداف وټاکئ

  • Description: Set SMART Goals. Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely for the reduction of load types and potential reduction amounts.
  • Responsible Party: Identify members of facilities/operations as needed to implement Load Reduction Plan.
  • Tools/Resources: Equipment list, single line diagram (if available), facility map, BAS system (if applicable).

Create the Action Plan

  • Plan Components – Develop the following:
    • Step-by-Step, Reducing to Save: Detailed plan addressing specific steps to achieve Demand Reduction goals during an Event. This document should include the the Program Contact, step-by-step load reduction documentation, and tools and resources (like a Building Automation System (BAS) notes) as applicable.
    • Don’t Leave Anyone in the Dark: Communications plan for facility leadership, occupants and stakeholders as applicable. Use EPB’s Communications Toolkit as needed to support your plan.
  • Responsible Party: Program contact, facilities/maintenance contacts, others as identified and EPB’s Energy Services/Systems Operations/Marketing/Internal Communications support
  • روزنه

    • Getting Your Folks Ready to Save: Proactively communicate the program to the building occupants and stakeholders. Before the first Event, give your folks a heads-up about the program and why you are joining. Use the Communications Toolkit to support your efforts as needed

تطبیق

  • Description: Access EPB’s Business Power Tracker (BPT), software training, Event testing, communication to stakeholders as needed.
  • Responsible Party: Program contact, facilities/maintenance contacts, others as identified and EPB’s Energy Services/Systems Operations/Marketing/Internal Communications support.
  • Tools/Resources: EPB BPT software account access; LRP process documented and in place; Communications process and materials in place; Key personnel trained and comfortable with LRP and understand timeliness of curtailment.

Monitoring and Measurement

  • Description: Continuously monitor energy usage and measure the effectiveness of the implemented measures.
  • Responsible Party: Energy Manager or other designated folks.
  • Tools/Resources: EPB’s BPT, BAS (or equivalent) if available and facilities/process/equipment walkthroughs.

Reporting and Review

  • Description: Responsible parties to regularly review process of implementing LRP towards energy reduction goals and identify areas for improvement. Looking for ways to make the LRP easy to implement and sustainable.
  • Responsible Party: Energy/Facilities/Maintenance/Operations Teams
  • Tools/Resources: Either formal or informal reporting on LRP process and areas for improvement or ease of implementation.

دوامداره ښه والی

  • Description: Review LRP report findings and identify opportunities for further energy reductions and update the Load Reduction Plan accordingly.
  • Responsible Party: Energy Manager or equivalent responsible party.
  • Tools/Resources: LRP Process review reports, feedback from stakeholders, and staying abreast of new technologies.

The EPB Energy ProsSM team is here to support you and your folks every step of the way.

Calculating Compensation

  • Compensation for event performance is calculated by averaging a customer’s performance over a one-month period for up to three Events. A baseline is established for each Event by:
    • Looking at the highest three days usage over the past 10 days.
    • A true-up calculation that factors in the actual usage during last two hours before an Event is called.
  • Performance for an Event is determined by subtracting the average Event demand from the baseline. The average is determined using performance usage in 15-minute increments for the duration of the Event.
  • If during an Event, a customer’s usage exceeds the baseline amount of energy, the performance factors in as a “zero.” The customer avoids negative inputs into the event performance average and the customer is not penalized for non-performance or for not meeting a certain load reduction goal.

Ongoing Training and Awareness

To ensure the success and sustainability of your Power Savers efforts, it is essential to focus on ongoing awareness and training initiatives.

  • Keep communications fluid during Power Savers program participation—set the expectations, explain the community value and the benefit to the organization.
  • Conduct training sessions for staff on energy-saving practices.
  • Promote awareness campaigns to encourage energy-conservation behaviors. Display energy educational posters monthly to show a commitment to elevated energy management by the company.
